PARK HILLS -- Four students from Central High School recently strutted their stuff at the Technology Education Association of Missouri (TEAM) State Championships held May 8 at Lodge of the Four Seasons in Lake of the Ozarks.
David Easter, Brian Lange, Candice Hutchison and C.J. Ferrell each received number one ratings for their computer aided design (CAD) drawings.
Marc Scoggin, the computer aided design instructor at Central High School, said there were approximately 300-400 projects at the competition.
"The projects ranged in a variety of areas from digital photography to woodworking," said Scoggin. "In addition to the projects the students were required to take a 50 question test that consisted of multiple choice answers. For our students the test covered CAD drawings."
Ferrell did a CAD drawing of an arboring press, Easter did a CAD drawing of a centering attachment, Hutchison did a CAD drawing of a stock support and Lange did a CAD drawing of a rack slide.
Scoggin said that computer aided design was once known as drafting and has adapted new technology and expanded the range of skills and abilities of yesterday's draftsman.
Easter and Lang were rated high enough on their project scores and test scores to win the state championship in their respected group levels. Lang won the Group B which was for first year students while Easter won the Group D which was for advanced level students.
Prior to competing at the state level the group of students competed in the Southeast District Competition held April 13-14 at Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff. The 50 best number one rated projects advanced to the state competition.
Scoggin said the students were selected to compete in the competitions because they showed an interest in doing the drawings.
